There are 6 routes in Taipei MRT system, but only two metro lines pass through Taipei Main Station. The Red Line (Tamsui-Xinyi Line) and Blue Line (Bannan Line) are the most important routes in Taipei MRT system. When commuters and visitors get to Taipei, they will use the Red Line or Blue Line to arrive at their destination or transfer to the other metro Lines. On the other hand, if you are a tourist and need to travel around Taipei, you have to learn how to take Taipei MRT, especially the Red Line and Blue Line.

Red Line – Tamsui-Xinyi Line

The Red Line connects Tamsui (淡水) north of Taipei City and Xinyi (信義) District so it is called Tamsui-Xinyi Line. Tamsui is famous for the landscape and delicious food. People can rent a bike to ride along the Tamsui River and see the amazing view of sunset.

Therefore, many people will take the Taipei MRT Tamsui-Xinyi Line from Taipei City Center to Tamsui on the weekend. On the other hand, many commuters who live in Tamsui will also choose the Red Line as the main transportation to get to Taipei City Center.

In conclusion, the Red Line drives the economy of  Tamsui city which was previously difficult to access by public transit and also provides a fast and cheap way for those who live in Tamsui to access the Xinyi Shopping District.

Stations of Tamsui-Xinyi Line

There are 28 stations in the Red Line system.

No matter who needs to take the train or high speed rail, they can choose both stations to easily transfer to the other traffic system.

Banqiao is the most prosperous area in Xinbei City (新北市), with over 550 thousand inhabitants. Every morning, many commuters who live in Banqiao have to get to Taipei city. Therefore, Taipei Bannan Line will be their first choice.

Generally, the Blue Line is one of the important routes in the Taipei metro system, it provides a convenient method to commute from Xinbei City or other cities to Taipei.
